My scholarship examines the validity of inferences supported by quantitative evidence. This work connects four broad areas:
Examining the estimation, evaluation, and interpretation of models involving constructs that cannot be observed directly.
Studying how instruments and scores support conclusions about psychological and educational phenomena.
Investigating model-based classification, group enumeration, uncertainty, and the consequences of quantitative decisions.
Evaluating how research design, measurement, analysis, and interpretation work together to support defensible conclusions.
Research on the accuracy and performance of estimation methods under conditions commonly encountered in applied research.
Research examining how data characteristics affect decisions concerning the number and nature of latent groups.
Research evaluating the performance of fit indices across a range of latent-variable models and analytic conditions.
Emerging work examining how measurement, model choice, and analytic uncertainty affect consequential classifications and decisions.
